I had a shitty race day. One part of it is chronicled over on the physics blog because unfortunately it yet again involved a member of the quantum gravity group. So much for the bad reputation of strings people. Strings people are always nice to me. It’s the quantum gravity people you have to beware of.
Anyway, the second bit is that whilst escaping PI at the bookstore, I had the “pleasure” of seeing a guy in a jacket that rather prominently displayed the confederate flag.
I mean, what the fuck people? Really?

Um..if that was at our place, Chanda I missed it.
It was the guy who came in to pick up a book. Wearing a black jacket? I think the book was about leather or something. I don’t know why I think that. I was kind of distracted by the jacket
You wouldn’t have necessarily seen it unless you saw the sides (there was a flag on either shoulder). Anyway, all I’ve been able to gather is that some sections of the Quebecois separatist movement have latched onto it as a symbol of freedom/secession and protest against the people of colour who they think prevented them from winning the battle when the vote was close.
Anyway, I should add that I don’t blame the store. At least dude is educating himself in some ways?
I’ve seen the Confederate Flag flown here in Germany while on a Volksmarch.
What do you think the meaning of it in Germany is?
I’ve always been irritated with German flags abroad. Apparently people just think of it as signifying durability, but especially in the pre-world cup times when Germans would rarely if ever fly their flag I found it quite irritating.
Never seen a confederate Flag in Germany though.
Also: Volksmarch? WTF?
